Tea calculator
How much tea, mint, and sugar for your pot? Choose glasses, glass size, and sweetness, and you get grams, water, and steeping time. Your selection is stored in the link, so you can share it.
How the calculator works
The starting point is guideline values as given in many recipes for Atay: about 12 grams of gunpowder tea (roughly 2 teaspoons per half liter) and a large handful of fresh mint (about 40 grams) per liter, plus sugar to taste. The tea is first rinsed briefly with a little hot water that you pour away; the calculator adds about 100 milliliters extra for this.
The sweetness is a matter of taste. In Morocco, mint tea is traditionally often drunk quite sweet; the values “Low,” “Medium,” and “Sweet” are a rough guide. If you want to reduce sugar, start with “Low” and give in if needed.
These are guideline values, not dogma: type of tea, type of mint, and the pot change the result. Taste after steeping and adjust next time.
